BIOGRAPHY
A Midwest native, Dr. Janene Sheldon is a vocalist, pianist, conductor, composer, and dancer/choreographer. She has appeared on stage with the Young Americans as a dancer/vocalist in Jesus Christ Superstar, Showboat, and Broadway Cabaret, and has performed the roles of Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady, Maggie in A Chorus Line, Carrie in Carousel, Minnie Fay in Hello Dolly, Barbarina in Le Nozze di Figaro, Nella in Gianni Schicchi, Mrs. Gobineau in The Medium, Miss Pinkerton in The Old Maid and the Thief, Aldonza/Dulcinea in Man of La Mancha, and numerous others.
Dr. Sheldon received her MM and DMA degrees in Voice Performance/Composition minor from the University of Nebraska Lincoln where she was a Regents Scholar and received the Ida M. Vreeland award for composition. Dr. Sheldon taught and conducted choirs at Nebraska Wesleyan and Concordia (Seward, NE) Universities, and has conducted choirs at UMC churches in Lincoln and Kearney, NE, and has done music direction for many shows at the Lincoln Community Playhouse, Lincoln’s Pinewood Bowl, and for the Ottumwa Community Players, where she is currently a board member. In 2014, Dr. Sheldon began a new adventure as the full time Professor of Choral Music at Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa, IA where she teaches Aural Skills, Applied Voice and Piano, and conducts the Concert Choir, Chamber Choir, and Men’s and Women’s Choirs.
Dr. Sheldon is a member of Pi Kappa Lambda Music Scholars Honorary, the American Choral Directors Association/Iowa Choral Directors Association/Nebraska Choral Directors Association (ACDA), and music fraternity Sigma Alpha Iota. She was twice nominated for the UMC Excellence in Teaching award, and was recognized as a “Notable Woman” of NWU.
