welcome to the Ottumwa Symphony Orchestra!
We are so excited that you decided to spend the evening with us.

what do i wear?
The only person you have to impress is your date so we encourage you to wear what makes you feel good about taking someone you care about to a special event. While we don't have a dress code, we do think it's not every day you get to go to the Symphony so we like to think it's an occasion worth a bit more effort. A cocktail dress/suit or jeans and nice shirt will be sufficient.
dinner plans
We suggest you make dinner reservations between one and a half to two hours prior to the concert. Consider the size of your party, the restaurant’s distance from your destination, and how long you’d like to linger over good food and good conversation. There are several options for dinner in Ottumwa, and we have a few recommendations for quality, delicious food.
tickets
If you are purchasing tickets at the event, we recommend arriving 30 minutes prior to the performance. If you prefer your tickets to be mailed, we suggest ordering your tickets at least one week in advance.
concert clues
When Do I Clap?
Traditionally, applause occurs a few times during a concert.
1. When the Concertmaster (first chair violinist) enters the stage.
2. When the conductor enters the stage.
3. After the completion of a piece. Sometimes, these pieces will have multiple movements, which will be listed in your program.
While these times are the traditional time to clap during a performance, we will not be upset if you feel compelled to applaud.
Can my kids attend a concert?
The sound and visuals can be very exciting and can captivate a child. If you bring an infant to the concert and they begin to cry, it's okay to take them outside to calm them down. When you are ready to return to the concert, please wait until the end of a piece before re-entering the auditorium.
